Add bots to CS 1.6: choose the right setup
Offline practice starts with a bot system that works in your client. YaPB, PODbot and other packages are separate projects. This page helps you choose the correct route before changing game files.
Check what is already installed
Read the client package notes and look for an existing bot menu or named plugin. Do not conclude that every CS 1.6 client contains the same bots because another installation has a familiar menu.
If the package says it uses YaPB, check the loaded version with the command below. A recognised response gives you a useful version to record. An unknown command means you have not established that YaPB is loaded; repeating unrelated bot commands will not install it.
yb versionMatch the instruction to your situation
| What you find | What to do next |
|---|---|
| YaPB responds with a version | Use the YaPB menu and first-match guide. |
| Another named bot plugin is installed | Use that project's commands and documentation. |
| No bot plugin can be identified | Back up the client and choose a supported installation method. |
| Bots work on one map but not another | Investigate the map's navigation data before reinstalling the client. |
Create a controlled practice session
- Start a local game rather than joining somebody else's public server. Select a standard map you can use as a repeatable test.
- Join a team and confirm that you can move and use a weapon before adding opponents.
- Open the installed bot system's menu. Add one opponent first and allow the round to begin.
- Watch whether the bot spawns, leaves its start area and interacts with the map. Then change one setting, such as difficulty or team assignment.
Diagnose the result
No bot in the player list points to a different problem from a visible bot that does not move. Keep the exact console message, map filename and plugin version. Those three details are more useful than replacing the whole client.
When the first session works, add more opponents gradually and save the working configuration. The YaPB installation guide documents genuine Steam clients; a community package with existing modifications may need its publisher's instructions. Atlas does not claim that its linked installer includes YaPB.
