YaPB for CS 1.6: installation and your first match
YaPB is a separate bot project for Counter-Strike. Its installation documentation covers genuine Steam clients. Establish which game folder and plugin setup you use before adding it to an existing installation.

Prepare the correct game folder
Close Counter-Strike and back up the files the bot installation will change. Keep the backup outside the active game folder. Find the actual installation through your game library or shortcut; a second cstrike folder elsewhere may belong to another client.
Download YaPB from the release page linked by its documentation. Select the package for your operating system. Do not use a version number copied from an old tutorial as a substitute for checking the current release instructions.
Choose one installation method
On Windows, the project's setup program asks for the folder containing hl.exe or hlds.exe and detects an existing Metamod setup. A manual installation is also documented. If you already use Metamod-dependent modifications, follow the plugin route rather than replacing their loading configuration.
Use the official instructions for the chosen method instead of combining steps from standalone and Metamod guides. When an installation finishes, reopen the same client and record the bot's reported version. A menu icon alone is not a version check.

yb menuRun a small first match
- Create a local game on a standard map and join a team.
- Use the YaPB menu to add one bot. Choose its team and difficulty there before experimenting with several console arguments.
- Let the round run and observe spawning, movement and objectives. Compare another standard map if the bot appears but cannot navigate.
- Increase the number of opponents only after that test works. Use the project's command reference for removal and additional options.
Keep difficulty and map settings separate
YaPB exposes difficulty settings and supports map-specific configuration. An unexpectedly hard opponent or a setting that changes after a map switch does not automatically mean installation failed. Check the active configuration and test the same map twice before editing multiple files.
Keep a note of your bot version, map, difficulty and player count. This becomes a reproducible practice session and a useful report if a later update changes behaviour. For a persistent loading failure, restore the relevant backup and compare your file layout with the official installation example.

Verify loading before adjusting the match
Install YaPB using instructions that match your client and chosen release. Start on a supported map and confirm that its commands are recognised before changing bot counts or difficulty. Keep the first session small and repeatable. Once movement and joining work, adjust one training variable at a time to compare the effect.
Questions before you play
Why do my YaPB bots stand still?
Check the map's navigation support and console messages. Confirm the plugin is loaded correctly before assuming the problem is difficulty, processor speed or the number of bots.
